Abstract

The banking industry is expected not only to achieve optimal financial performance but also to support sustainable development. This writing is motivated by the varying levels of green banking implementation and operational efficiency among banks in Indonesia, particularly within the KBMI IV category. The purpose of this writing is to identify the implementation of green banking, measure operational efficiency using the Operating Expenses to Operating Income (BOPO) ratio, and analyze the implications of green banking on the operational efficiency of KBMI IV banks during the 2023–2025 period. A quantitative descriptive method was employed using secondary data obtained from the annual reports and sustainability reports of Bank Mandiri, BRI, BNI, and BCA. The results show that all four banks have implemented green banking through green operational, green liability, and green asset activities. In addition, all banks maintained BOPO ratios within the healthy range according to regulatory standards. This writing indicates that the implications of green banking on operational efficiency have not shown a uniform pattern. BCA is the only bank that demonstrates an improvement in green banking indicators accompanied by a decline in the BOPO ratio, while the other banks experience an increase in green banking indicators alongside a rise in BOPO.
