Abstract

Stunting is a condition characterized by impaired growth and development in children due to prolonged inadequate nutrition and remains a major public health concern, as it is linked to higher risks of illness, death, suboptimal brain development, delayed motor skills, and poor cognitive outcomes. Its causes are multifactorial, with maternal factors playing a key role in determining a child’s nutritional status. This research sought to examine maternal risk factors associated with stunting among toddlers using a cross-sectional design involving 112 mother child pairs selected through purposive sampling. The findings showed a stunting prevalence of 35.7% in Sukajadi Village. Bivariate analysis (Chi-square) identified maternal height, number of children, history of anemia during pregnancy, maternal education, and knowledge of breastfeeding and complementary feeding as significant factors. Multivariate analysis revealed maternal education as the most influential factor (p = 0.000; OR = 23.962). Improving maternal knowledge and education is essential to prevent stunting.
