Abstract
This study aims to analyze the political strategy of BAPPILU of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in maintaining its highest vote share in the 2024 legislative election. An interesting phenomenon emerges as PDI-P remains the party with the largest legislative vote share despite its presidential candidate receiving the lowest votes and the decline in political support from President Joko Widodo, indicating a pattern that differs from the coattail effect observed in previous elections. Therefore, this research focuses on examining how BAPPILU’s political strategies were designed and implemented to sustain electoral dominance amid the political dynamics of 2024. This study adopts Peter Schroder’s political strategy theory, which emphasizes that the success of a political strategy in increasing a party’s vote share depends on the party’s ability to design programs that align with societal needs. In addition, political strategy must be supported by two key indicators: offensive strategies to expand electoral support and defensive strategies to maintain existing voter bases. A descriptive qualitative approach is employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings show that BAPPILU PDI-P’s political strategies were effective in maintaining the party’s position as the highest vote-getter in the 2024 legislative election. Among the strategies identified, Peter Schroder’s (2010) defensive strategy had the most significant impact in preserving vote acquisition, as it functioned to strengthen the party’s internal base through ideological consolidation and the influence of the party’s chairperson, Megawati Soekarnoputri.
