Abstract
Background: Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder caused by brain damage, which can cause movement and posture disorders as well as disorders in perception, sensation, cognition, and gross and fine motor control. Head control and trunk control are gross motor skills in children with cerebral palsy that are very important in determining their potential to walk and sit. Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. Results: A total of 60 children with cerebral palsy were analyzed and classified into poor, moderate, and good trunk control categories based on the Trunk Impairment Scale score, which yielded a mean of 12.7 with a mode of 13. Trunk control scores ranged from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 23 with a standard deviation (SD) of ± 7.01. Based on the characteristics, the results showed that the dominant age was in the moderate category of the adolescent group; the dominant gender was in the moderate category of the male group; the cerebral palsy type score was predominantly in the moderate category for the diplegic group; the balance of dominance values is found in the category of good ECAB balance groups; and the GMFCS level score was predominantly in the moderate level III category. Conclusion: Trunk control ability in children with cerebral palsy at YPAC Jakarta is mostly in the moderate category, especially in the adolescent age group, males, diplegic cerebral palsy type, and GMFCS level III. Better trunk control is associated with better static balance, but dynamic balance still shows limitations. Keywords: Cerebral Palsy, Trunk Impairment Scale, Trunk Control
