Abstract
Male adolescents are vulnerable to mental health problems, partly due to masculinity norms that encourage emotional suppression. The internalization of masculine norms is associated with increased anxiety and the emergence of alexithymia. Bekasi, as an urban and industrial area, is characterized by high academic and social pressures that may influence masculinity development and adolescents’ psychological conditions. However, studies examining the relationship between masculinity, anxiety, and alexithymia among male adolescents in Bekasi remain limited. This study aimed to determine the relationship between masculinity and levels of anxiety and alexithymia among male adolescents in Bekasi. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. The sample consisted of 400 male adolescents selected using an accidental sampling technique. Research instruments included the MRNI-SF, GAD-7, and TAS-20, which were valid and reliable. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation test. The results showed significant relationships between masculinity, anxiety, and alexithymia among male adolescents. Higher masculinity levels were associated with greater difficulty in identifying and expressing emotions, which may contribute to less adaptive psychological conditions. These findings may support the development of promotive and preventive mental health programs that address masculinity issues among male adolescents in urban areas.
