Abstract
Older adults are vulnerable to experiencing physical, psychological, and social changes as part of the aging process. These changes may trigger death anxiety and feelings of loneliness, which can potentially affect the spiritual condition of older adults. Spirituality plays an important role in helping older adults find meaning in life, enhance inner peace, and face death with a more positive attitude. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of death anxiety and loneliness and the level of spirituality among older adults in RW 09, Kelurahan Baru, East Jakarta. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach and involved 194 respondents who were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using the Death Anxiety Scale (DAS), the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale, and the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) all of which have been proven to be valid and reliable. The results showed a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05) for the correlation between death anxiety and spirituality, and a p-value of 0.012 (<0.05) for the correlation between loneliness and spirituality. The conclusion of this study indicates that there is a relationship between death anxiety and spirituality, as well as between loneliness and spirituality among older adults. Both death anxiety and loneliness show a positive relationship with spirituality. The results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for the development of nursing interventions and the planning of health service programs oriented toward improving the psychological and spiritual well-being of older adults.
