Abstract
Background: Elderly experience physiological decline that increases the risk of degenerative diseases, including hypertension. Globally, the elderly population has increased, which is accompanied by a rising prevalence of hypertension among elderly. One contributing factor to elevated blood pressure in the elderly is a high percentage of body fat. Excessive fat accumulation may induce vasoconstriction and increase arterial wall stiffness, leading to elevated blood pressure. Aimed: This study aimed to examine the relationship between percentage body fat and blood pressure among elderly at the Posbindu Komplek Marinir, Depok. Methode: An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 113 elderly selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria on Desember 2025 at Posbindu Komplek Marinir Depok, using total sampling. Percentage body fat was measured using a hand-to-foot bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) device, while blood pressure was assessed using a digital sphygmomanometer. Result: The Fisher exact test revealed a statistically significant association between PBF and blood pressure (p < 0.001). These findings indicate a significant associated between percentage body fat and blood pressure among elderly. Conclusion: percentage body fat is significantly associated with blood pressure and may serve as an important indicator for early identification of hypertension risk in community dwelling elderly.
