Abstract
Driven by the researcher’s curiosity about how a household gives meaning to every expense and effort within it, this study seeks to understand how families recognize what they consider as burdens and what they view as investments in their daily lives. Using a qualitative approach with Heideggerian phenomenology, this research explores household experiences in managing finances and planning for long-term needs. The findings show that the recognition of burdens and investments can emerge from the values, habits, and perspectives each family holds about their life. Families with an understanding of accounting tend to organize their spending more systematically, while those without an accounting background rely on more natural, experience-based considerations. This study expands the understanding of accounting into the social sphere by demonstrating that accounting practices do not merely record numbers, but also reflect meaning and human existence within household life.
