Abstract

The agricultural sector, particularly the plantation crops, is a crucial pillar of Indonesia's economy. Farmers' welfare is generally measured through the Farmers' Terms of Trade (NTP). South Sumatra and Lampung Provinces consistently rank as the top two national coffee-producing provinces, yet the dynamics of their farmers' welfare have not fully aligned with their positions as leading provinces. This study aims to analyze the effects of GRDP in the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Sector, Inflation, and Coffee Productivity on the Plantation Farmers' Terms of Trade (NTPB) in South Sumatra and Lampung Provinces during 2015–2023. The data comprise 216 observations sourced from the Badan Pusat Statistik and the Ministry of Agriculture. The analysis employs panel data regression, with Common Effect Model as the best model using Stata 17. The results indicate that GRDP and Inflation have a significant positive influence on NTPB, suggesting that agricultural sector economic growth and price dynamics from rising agricultural commodity prices can boost farmer welfare. In contrast, Coffee Productivity has a negative and insignificant effect on NTPB, indicating that higher output has not directly enhanced farmer welfare. Simultaneously, all economic indicators significantly affect NTPB, showing that farmer welfare results from a combination of various economic indicators.
