Abstract
Tendinitis is a common musculoskeletal disorder frequently encountered in orthopedic outpatient clinics and may lead to pain, functional limitation, and decreased quality of life. Several intrinsic factors are known to contribute to the development of tendinitis, including body mass index (BMI) and age. Objective: To identify the relationship between Body Mass Index and age and the incidence of tendinitis in outpatients of the orthopedic surgery polyclinic at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital for the period 2023-2025. Methods: The study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach to 33 medical records of patients who met the restriction criteria. Data collection was carried out through observation of medical records with consecutive total sampling techniques. Data analysis included univariate analysis to describe the variable frequency distribution and bivariate analysis using the Fisher exact test with a significance level of p less than 0.05. Results: The majority of the study subjects had an overweight Body Mass Index of 51.5% and belonged to the pre-elderly age group of 54.5%. Achilles tendinitis is the most dominant type with a percentage of 48.5%. Statistical tests showed a meaningful relationship between Body Mass Index and the incidence of tendinitis with a p value equal to 0.026 and a meaningful relationship between age and the incidence of tendinitis with a p value equal to 0.005. Conclusions: There is a significant association between Body Mass Index and age with the incidence of tendinitis, indicating the importance of weight control and awareness of degenerative risks in old age as a preventive strategy.
