Abstract
Objective: As people age, the elderly often encounter various health issues that limit their ability to function. These problems include changes in stress adaptation, different sleep needs, and disease histories. Such factors can cause mental health disorders, especially anxiety. This study aims to determine whether stress level, sleep quality, and disease history are associated with potential anxiety among the elderly at the Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 Nursing Home in East Jakarta. Method: This study employs a quantitative, cross-sectional design to examine the elderly at Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 Nursing Home in East Jakarta. This study used the PSS-10, PSQI, disease history, and GAI questionnaires to determine the relationships among sleep quality, disease history, stress level, and potential anxiety. Result: The results showed that most elderly respondents had mild stress (19 elders, 57.6%). Many had poor sleep quality (21 elders, 63.6%) and a history of illness (20 elders, 60.6%). Most did not have potential anxiety (26 elders, 78.8%). The bivariate test used Fisher's Exact Test due to data requirements. There was a significant relationship between stress level and potential anxiety (p = 0.026), between sleep quality and potential anxiety (p = 0.032), and between the history of chronic diseases and potential anxiety (p = 0.027). Conclusion: Based on the study's results, significant relationships were found between stress level, sleep quality, history of chronic diseases, and potential anxiety in the elderly at the Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 Nursing Home in East Jakarta.
