Abstract
This research discusses the transformation of the United States containment policy strategy in responding to the rise of China's influence in the Indo-Pacific region during the leadership of President Donald J. Trump's first term, to President Joseph R. Biden. The Indo-Pacific region has become the center of geopolitical rivalry due to its strategic economic and military position. The main objective of this research is to analyze and identify the factors behind changes in the United States' foreign policy approach towards China, with an emphasis on comparing the approach patterns of each president. This research uses a qualitative method with data collection techniques through literature study and in-depth interviews. The results show that despite differences in style and rhetoric between the two leaders Trump with a unilateralist and transactional approach, and Biden with a multilateral and diplomatic approach-both have the same strategic goal, which is to contain China's rise in the Indo-Pacific region. This policy transformation is influenced by several main factors, such as national interests, presidential doctrine, power projection, and the dynamics of the two-party system in the United States. This research provides an overview of US foreign policy adaptations that are realistic and flexible in the face of evolving global geopolitical challenges.
