Abstract
Hypertension is included in the category of non-communicable diseases that show an increasing prevalence with age. Hypertension is a chronic condition that often develops without symptoms, but has a long impact on the cardiovascular system. This study aimed to investigate the association between sodium and potassium intake and consumption, physical activity level, and nutritional status with the incidence of hypertension in participants of Posyandu Lansia and Posbindu Sedap Malam Kelurahan Bendungan Hilir Village. The research design used was cross-sectional, with 55 respondents selected using simple random sampling technique. Data collection included blood pressure measurements, anthropometric data, sodium consumption and potassium consumption using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and 24 hour dietary recall, and physical activity using the Baecke Questionnaire. The results of the chi-square test analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between sodium consumption (p=0.023), sodium intake (p=0.009), and physical activity (p=0.011) with the incidence of hypertension. However, there was no significant relationship between potassium consumption (p=0.343), potassium intake (p=0.229), and nutritional status (p=0.328) with the incidence of hypertension. The conclusion obtained was that sodium consumption, sodium intake, and physical activity had a significant relationship with the incidence of hypertension, while there was no significant relationship between potassium consumption, potassium intake, and nutritional status with the incidence of hypertension.
