Abstract
Various relationship dynamics can occur within romantic relationships, one of which is infidelity. Infidelity is a phenomenon that takes place when one partner betrays their primary partner by establishing another romantic relationship. Experiencing infidelity can lead to various forms of trauma, both for the victim and the perpetrator. For victims, the damage to their level of trust becomes a new form of trauma that must be managed in order to continue living as social beings who require interpersonal relationships. This study focuses on how victims of infidelity during the dating stage recover their sense of trust when entering a new romantic relationship, viewed from the perspective of interpersonal communication. This research applies the Relational Dialectics Theory and uses a qualitative phenomenological approach, with in-depth interviews as the primary data collection method. The findings indicate that the loss of trust following an infidelity experience leads victims to develop a skeptical attitude toward their surroundings and new individuals. Open and two-way interpersonal communication with family, close friends, potential new partners, and psychological experts can provide support in the recovery of trust and other related traumas. The interpersonal communication process between victims and their new partners when accompanied by high levels of intimacy and communication intensity can facilitate a faster emotional reconnection and recovery for the victim.
