Abstract

Discussions about the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) have become one of the most widely discussed and published topics by various online news portals in Indonesia, one of which is Detik.com news channel (Detik.news), which consistently presents the latest information related to development progress, government policies, and the relocation of the national capital. The purpose of this study is to analyze the content of news coverage on the IKN project during the presidency of the 7th President Joko Widodo in August 2024 and the current President Prabowo Subianto in January 2025 on the Detik.news news portal. The method used is quantitative content analysis, applying Westerstahl's Objectivity Theory with dimensions of factuality and impartiality. The sample consists of 32 news articles totaling 461 sentences (16 per era for Jokowi; 245 sentences for Prabowo; 216 sentences) using purposive sampling, with measurement tools employing a coding sheet based on Westerstahl's objectivity indicators. The data were analyzed descriptively and presented in frequency tables and percentages, supplemented by inter-coder agreement tests using Percent Agreement and reliability tests using Scott Pi's Formula. The results of this study indicate that the dimension of factuality is predominantly fulfilled, as evidenced by the high use of sociological facts (Jokowi 99%, Prabowo 100%), near-perfect news accuracy (Jokowi 99%, Prabowo 100%), and relevant news values such as significance, timeliness, currency, and prominence. However, the use of psychological facts remains low, and the completeness of the 5W+1H elements is uneven, particularly the “How” element, which appears only 37% of the time during Jokowi's era but 97% during Prabowo's era. On the other hand, the impartiality dimension shows less than optimal results. Although all news is neutral, non-evaluative, and non-sensational, almost none of it meets the principle of balance (cover both sides), with 0% of news in the Jokowi era and only 1% of news in the Prabowo era presenting opposing viewpoints. Overall, Detik.news' coverage of the IKN can be considered objective in terms of facts and presentation style, but it remains weak in terms of balance and the “How” element.
