Abstract

The 81 mm mortar carrier anhang is a vital component in military weapon systems that must be able to withstand dynamic and cyclic loads during combat operations. This research aims to analyze the strength and fatigue life of the anhang chassis structure using a numerical study approach based on the finite element method (FEM) through ANSYS software. The material used is ASTM A572 Grade 50 steel, with loading in the form of a reaction force due to mortar fire of 10,085.65 N at an elevation angle of 45°. The simulation results show a maximum Von-Mises stress of 120.45 MPa and a total deformation of 0.48 mm. The factor of safety value of 2.864 indicates that the chassis structure is still in a safe condition against static loads. In addition, the fatigue analysis shows that the structure is in the infinite life zone with a fatigue life exceeding 10⁶ cycles, making it safe against long-term cyclic loads. This research proves that the numerical simulation approach is effective in evaluating the strength of structures before physical production is carried out, and provides a technical basis for the development of more robust and reliable anhang designs in support of military operations.
