Abstract
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the human immune system, while Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is the advanced stage of HIV infection. Adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) therapy is crucial in suppressing viral replication and extending patients’ life expectancy. However, ARV adherence rates in Indonesia still vary, including in the Tangerang Selatan area. Puskesmas Jombang is one of the healthcare facilities that provides ARV services for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and serves as a referral center for the surrounding region. This study aims to explore the factors influencing ARV adherence among PLHIV in Tangerang Selatan, considering the context of ARV services at Puskesmas Jombang. This study uses a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five PLHIV who had been on ARV therapy for at least six months. The results showed that the factors influencing ARV adherence included: symptomps, busyness, patients’ knowledge and healthcare facility services. Services at Puskesmas Jombang play an important role in educating and shaping PLHIV’s perceptions toward ARV therapy. This study is expected to provide a basis for interventions to improve ARV adherence in Tangerang Selatan.
