Abstract

Hypertension is a significant health issue that may be influenced by the use of hormonal contraceptives, particularly pills and injectables, which are commonly chosen by women of childbearing age. Concerns have arisen regarding their potential side effects, including an increased risk of hypertension. This study aims to analyze the association between the use of hormonal contraceptives (pills and injections) and the incidence of hypertension among acceptors at Puskesmas Cileungsi, Bogor Regency, in 2024. Employing a retrospective cross-sectional design, the study included all hormonal contraceptive acceptors with available medical records at the health center, using total sampling. Data were extracted from medical records, focusing on the type and duration of contraceptive use, age, parity, and the latest recorded blood pressure. The chi square test was used for data analysis to determine the relationship between hormonal contraception and hypertension incidence, with a significance threshold of p < 0.005. The results revealed a significant association, with a p-value of 0.014 and an odds ratio of 0.267, indicating that the use of hormonal contraceptives is linked to hypertension incidence. Additionally, faktors such as duration of use, age, and parity were also associated with hypertension among acceptors. These findings highlight the importance of considering the risk of hypertension when selecting contraceptive methods. The study provides valuable information for health professionals to guide education and recommendations for appropriate contraceptive choices at Puskesmas Cileungsi and other healthcare facilities.
