Abstract

Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP) is an Islamic party with extensive experience in electoral competition. Since its establishment during the New Order era, the PPP has participated in various Legislative Elections in Indonesia. However, in the post-reform period, the PPP’s electoral performance has shown a significant downward trend, culminating in the 2024 election, where, for the first time, the PPP failed to secure a position in parliament. This study aims to analyze the causes of the PPP’s decline in votes during the 2024 election using voter behavior theory, political party strategy, and party institutionalization as analytical tools. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with primary and secondary data obtained through interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The findings reveal that the PPP’s decline in votes during the 2024 election was caused by the party’s failure to maintain its traditional voter base, consisting of loyal supporters who typically vote for the PPP. Internal conflicts among party elites, corruption cases, and policies that did not accommodate voter preferences further eroded voter support. Specifically, the misalignment between the party’s stance and its constituents’ preferences, particularly regarding presidential election endorsements during the simultaneous elections, became the main factor contributing to the PPP’s loss in the 2024 Legislative Election.
