Abstract
This research aims to provide and to find 8 (eight) characteristics of old and new public diplomacy that are fulfilled in the introduction of Dutch culture in Indonesia by Erasmus Huis, using the theory and concept of new public diplomacy according to Nicholas J. Cull as an analytical tool. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative – case study model which aims to understanding, interpreting, and describing the characteristics of old and new public diplomacy by Erasmus Huis in introducing Dutch culture in Indonesia, as well as analyzing the case study in depth. The research data sources are divided into 2 (two): primary data obtained from key informant through interview and also secondary data in the form of audio-visual materials, books, journals, news, and official documents. Researcher used 3 (three) components of Miles & Huberman's data analysis techniques consisting of data reduction, data presentation or display, conclusions and verification by data triangulation. The final result of this research found that The Netherlands through Erasmus Huis is a form of old and new public diplomacy characteristics in the activities of introducing Dutch culture in Indonesia by fulfilling 6 (six) new public diplomacy instruments, which are identity of international actor, technology environment, media environment, source of approach, terminology, and nature of role; 1 (one) old public diplomacy instrument which is structure of role; also 1 (one) old and new public diplomacy instrument which is the overall aim.
