Abstract

Background: Physical activity is defined as any body movement produced by the contraction of skeletal muscles. In a previous study in 2018, it was found that the physical activity of children in an elementary school setting was quite varied, with 26.1% of children classified as physically inactive, while 73.9% led an inactive lifestyle. This suggests that physical activity among elementary school-aged children is generally low. Research Objectives: This study aims to provide an overview of the physical activity of children in elementary schools, especially in SDN Limo 2 Depok City. Research Methods: This study used a descriptive quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach, and data were collected using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Children (PAQ-C) questionnaire which has been translated into Indonesian. Results: Factors such as age, gender, and body mass index (BMI) can be factors that make differences in the intensity of physical activity of each individual. It was found that the majority of grade 5 students of SDN Limo 2 Depok City were in the low or moderate physical activity category. Male respondents showed higher levels of physical activity than females. Children aged 11 years had a distribution of physical activity that tended to be in the moderate and low categories, and boys with higher BMI tended to have lower levels of physical activity. Conclusion: This indicates that factors such as gender, age and BMI play an important role in determining the physical activity patterns of 5th grade students of SDN Limo 2 Depok City.
