Abstract

Background: Elderly individuals often experience a decline in dynamic balance due to physiological changes, increasing the risk of falls. Studies indicate that about 30% of individuals over 65 years old fall each year, with a higher incidence in those over 75. Research purpose: This study aims to analyze the dynamic balance of elderly residents at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 3 based on age, gender, and Body Mass Index (BMI). Research Methods: Conducted in October 2024 at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 3, this quantitative descriptive study used a cross-sectional approach, involving 70 elderly participants selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Dynamic balance was measured using the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT). Research Results: The majority (40%) had "good" balance. Balance problems were more prevalent in the 75–90 age group (21.4%). Female participants showed better balance than males, with 28.5% categorized as "good". Elderly individuals with obesity experienced more balance issues than those with a normal BMI. Conclusion: The elderly at this social institution generally showed varied dynamic balance levels, with most classified as "good." Age, gender, and BMI were found to influence dynamic balance outcomes.
