Abstract

The maternal mortality rate remains high and is rising significantly each year. Anemia and disorders related to uterine contractions can have an impact on primary postpartum hemorrhage, one of the primary causes. The purpose of this study is to examine the association between the incidence of primary postpartum hemorrhage in 257 mothers who gave birth at Dompet Dhuafa Parung Integrated Hospital with anemia and uterine contractions. This study employed a cross-sectional methodology, measuring hemoglobin levels to detect the presence of anemia and evaluating uterine contractions clinically. From 2022 to 2024, information was gathered from medical records. The chi-square test was used to analyze the data and assess the correlation between the variables. The analysis's findings demonstrated a strong correlation between the incidence of primary postpartum bleeding and anemia and insufficient uterine contractions. The significance value for the association between uterine contractions and primary postpartum hemorrhage was 0.000 (p<0.05), whereas the association between anemia and primary postpartum hemorrhage was 0.001. These results underline how crucial it is to regulate uterine contractions and identify anemia early in order to lower the risk of primary postpartum hemorrhage. Future research on anemia during pregnancy and optimizing uterine contractions prior to birth might think about including more variables or creating therapies.
