Abstract

Stroke remains a leading health issue in Indonesia and can occur in adulthood. This study aims to seek determinants of stroke among adult population in Indonesia. This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach using secondary data from Indonesian Health Survey (IHS) 2023 and its questionnaire instrument. This study applied multistage cluster sampling and data analysis was carried out up to multivariate using multiple logistic regression. From 489.159 samples aged 19-59 years, the prevalence of stroke in Indonesia was 0.4% (95% CI: 0,3 – 0,4). The results of the multivariate analysis showed that hypertension (aPOR=22,55; 95%CI: 20,112 – 25,276), age (aPOR=3,72; 95%CI: 3,321 – 4,160), chronic kidney disease (aPOR=7,22; 95%CI: 3,666 – 14,227), physical activity (aPOR=2,79; 95%CI: 2,521 – 3,092), diabetes mellitus (aPOR=2,23; 95%CI: 1,942 – 2,566), heart disease (aPOR=2,20; 95%CI: 1,844 – 2,625), gender (aPOR=1,72; 95%CI: 1,559 – 1,899), obesity (aPOR=0,86; 95%CI: 0,771 – 0,951), and consumption of risky foods (aPOR=0,63; 95%CI: 0,572 – 0,699) are associated with the incidence of stroke in Indonesia. From the multivariate results, the dominant factor in the incidence of stroke in adulthood in Indonesia was hypertension. To reduce the incidence of stroke in Indonesia, health promotion regarding lifestyle should be enhanced, targeting the productive age group.
