Abstract
The loss of a spouse is a significant event that can have profound emotional, social, and psychological impacts, especially on the elderly. This condition can affect their overall quality of life, encompassing physical, psychological, social, and environmental aspects. Social support and resilience play crucial roles in helping the elderly cope with this situation. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and resilience with the quality of life of elderly individuals who have lost their spouses in nursing homes in Jakarta. This cross-sectional study employed Spearman correlation analysis and purposive sampling with 101 elderly participants. Instruments used were the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF). The results revealed a significant correlation between social support and quality of life (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05) and between resilience and quality of life (p-value = 0.004 < 0.05). This indicating that the relationship between the three variables is significant. This research is expected to provide information for elderly people who have lost their spouses in increasing social support and resilience so that the quality of life of the elderly can always be in good condition.
