Abstract

There has been an increase in the incidence of women giving birth using cesarean section methods. This is in line with the risk of post-cesarean wound infection. Infections that occur can affect health as well as attachment to the mother and baby. This study was conducted to determine the factors associated with surgical wound infection in post-cesarean section mothers. This study used a cross sectional research design with a retrospective approach. The study sample consisted of 104 post-cesarean mothers selected using purposive sampling technique. Data collection used secondary data through medical records. The data that had been collected were analyzed using fisher's exact and spearman's tests to determine the relationship between these variables and the incidence of surgical wound infection in post-cesarean section mothers. The results showed that there was a significant association between post-cesarean wound infection and several variables, namely age, education level, body mass index (BMI), history of diabetes mellitus (DM), hemoglobin levels, and platelet levels, all of which had a p value <0,005. Meanwhile, the variables of parity and type of surgery did not show a significant relationship, p > 0,005. Future researchers are expected to conduct intervention research related to the results of this study.
