Abstract

The intense market competition necessitates companies to provide the best quality and standards to customers in order to gain a competitive advantage. This research aims to analyze and identify the defect rate in the production process of packaged herbal beverage products at PT. XYZ using the Six Sigma approach. The main problem faced by PT. XYZ is the defects in its production output, such as clumping powder, packaging damage, and product color change. The research method used in this study is Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC). The define phase uses CTQ to identify the attribute elements of the powdered herbal beverage product that align with product criteria. The measure phase employs a Pareto chart to determine the dominant defects, a P control chart to determine the control limits of the defects produced, and the calculation of DPMO and sigma level. The analyze phase utilizes a fishbone diagram to delve deeper into the root causes of defects. The improve phase employs the 5W+1H method to obtain improvement proposals. Finally, the control phase develops a proposed SOP in the form of a check sheets. The results of the calculations show a DPMO value of 10612.8 and a sigma level of 3.81. Five factors were found to contribute to defects: man, material, machine, method, and environment. From these five root causes, five improvement proposals were formulated. The improvement proposals are summarized in a check sheets, which is useful for controlling the production process to minimize defects.
