Abstract

The application of learning models in accounting education is closely related to the mastery of theory and quality in applying students' accounting practice skills. One of the learning models that is an option is project-based learning. This study was conducted to see how the implementation of project-based learning in accounting education, especially in the Basic Accounting course. Based on research using qualitative methods, interpretive paradigms, it was found that project-based learning was chosen as one of the learning models based on the objectives and directions of the faculty and university through various lecturer research by considering student abilities which validated by the study program, where the project is preparing UMKM’s financial reports. This model provides benefits that are in line with the objectives of accounting education, namely having competence in their fields by increasing students' understanding and technical skills, as well as the absolute goal of being devoted to God by helping others and learning based on self-awareness with the resolution of cases that do not have answer keys. However, various obstacles were found because this model was applied in basic courses that required material reinforcement and to first-year students.
