Abstract

Cardiorespiratory diseases are linked to resting heart rate values, underlining the necessity of regular assessment to support preventive healthcare strategies. These values can be evaluated through maximum aerobic capacity (VO₂ max). This research aimed to investigate the relation between resting heart rate and VO₂ max among students of the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta. The study employed an observational analytical method with a cross-sectional design. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test, assessing the relationship through the Pearson correlation coefficient. The results showed that the average resting heart rate of 53 respondents was 77.19 beats/minute, while the average VO₂ max was 41.28 ml/kg/min. Statistical analysis revealed a significant negative relation between resting heart rate and VO₂ max (p = 0.028, r = -0.301). These findings suggest the importance of maintaining a healthy resting heart rate and VO₂ max through lifestyle modifications to prevent cardiorespiratory health issues.
