Abstract
Ankle sprains are common injuries experienced by physically active individuals, including athletes and police officers. These injuries not only lead to disability and morbidity but also result in high rehabilitation costs. Both intrinsic factors (age, gender, history of injuries) and extrinsic factors (work environment and officer rank) influence the occurrence of ankle sprains. Methods: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between ankle sprain incidents and their risk factors in active members of the Indonesian National Police treated at Bhayangkara TK. I Pusdokkes Polri Hospital. A cross-sectional quantitative analysis was conducted using 110 medical records. Results: A significant relationship was found between police rank and the incidence of ankle sprains (p = 0.049). Lower-ranking officers were at a higher risk, with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.589. In contrast, no significant relationships were observed for age (p = 0.838), gender (p = 0.457), or history of foot injuries (p = 0.803). Nonetheless, these factors still contributed to the risk of ankle sprain, as indicated by their respective ORs: age (1.174), gender (1.504), and injury history (1.217). Conclusion: The findings reveal a significant correlation between police rank and ankle sprain occurrences among active officers. Although age, gender, and history of foot injuries were not significantly associated, they remain contributing risk factors. This study underscores the importance of targeted injury prevention strategies for active police officers, particularly those in lower ranks.
