Abstract
The idea to conduct research related to violent communication in children arose from the researcher's concerns as someone who often hears violent communication that occurs in the researcher's residential environment. In addition, cases of violence against children in Indonesia increase every year, recorded in May 2020 as many as 49.2 million children in Indonesia experienced verbal violence and 8.7 million children experienced physical violence. For this reason, this study aims to determine the experiences of children who experience violent communication by their families, the feelings of children who experience violent communication and how children interpret violent communication carried out by their families. The method used for this study is qualitative descriptive, with a phenomenological approach. The data collection technique used is interviews. The data analysis technique used is a four-level presentation, namely horizontalization, statement presentation, theme analysis, and statement essence. The results of the study show that children's experiences of violent communication by families consist of several themes, namely the factors that cause violent communication, feelings of sadness, fear and hurt, children have experienced violent communication since childhood, the child's response in interpreting violent communication, namely good, bad, and habitual meanings, and the psychological impact on children. The essence of this research is that violent communication is an act of verbal and nonverbal violence that is often considered trivial by parents, but becomes a deep wound for children and has a negative impact on the child's psyche.
