Abstract
The Korean Wave has become an important tool in South Korea's public diplomacy to strengthen its image and promote cultural exchanges with Japan. SEVENTEEN, as one of the most popular K-Pop boy groups, plays a major role in spreading Korean culture in Japan and strengthening the presence of the Korean Wave. This research examines SEVENTEEN's role in supporting South Korea's public diplomacy in Japan. The research method used is descriptive qualitative and is based on the concepts described by Cull (2008) regarding the key elements of public diplomacy, as well as using the framework developed by Leonard (2002), which highlights the importance of image and reputation as public commodities in diplomacy. SEVENTEEN not only revives interest in the Korean Wave in Japan through their music but also acts as a public diplomacy agent that strengthens cultural ties between the two countries. They use music as a means for advocacy and relationship-building, utilizing digital media and social campaigns to solidify their position as icons of Hallyu, and engaging in various collaborations with Japanese artists and brands as a part of cultural exchange in public diplomacy. Keywords: Public Diplomacy, Korean Wave, SEVENTEEN
