Abstract
ABSTRACT This research is entitled "Indonesia's Diplomacy towards Saudi Arabia in Increasing the Hajj Quota for 2022-2024". The purpose of this study is to understand and explain the diplomacy applied by the Indonesian government to increase the hajj quota in order to cut the waiting list for the Indonesian hajj pilgrimage. By using a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method, which combines primary data and secondary data from various official sources and interviews with related parties. The results of this study show that Indonesia's diplomacy through bilateral negotiations with Saudi Arabia succeeded in increasing the hajj quota in the period 2022-2024 to reach 20,000 additional hajj quotas in 2024. The Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia played a key role in the process of building effective and persuasive communication. In addition, the increase in the hajj quota led to improvements in the quality of services for pilgrims and strengthened bilateral relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. However, this study also identifies some challenges, such as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and competition with other countries for a larger hajj quota.
