Abstract
The ship crew plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of maritime vessels, thus they must maintain work productivity, where overweight status can decrease work productivity. Based on the results of the Basic Health Research, the proportion of central obesity has continued to increase significantly, reaching a prevalence of 31% in 2018 for individuals aged ≥ 15 years, which is higher compared to the overall obesity prevalence. This study aims to investigate the relationship between stress levels, diet, and smoking habits with the incidence of central obesity among ship crew members. This research is an analytical observational study using a cross-sectional method with a sample of 101 respondents selected using the stratified random sampling method. The results of the chi-square test showed a relationship between the consumption of fatty foods (p=0,001) and the consumption of sweet foods and beverages (p=0,001) with central obesity. Meanwhile, there was no relationship between stress levels (p=0,170), consumption of salty foods (p=0,695), consumption of fruits and vegetables (p=0,458), and smoking habits (p=0,255) with central obesity. Respondents are encouraged to reduce the intake of fatty foods as well as sweet foods and beverages as a strategy to reduce the risk of central obesity.
