Abstract
This study aims to explore gossip interaction patterns within the WhatsApp group Broccoli Indonesia, dedicated to fans of the idol couple Boun and Prem. Employing a qualitative descriptive method involving chatlog analysis, interviews, and observations, the research reveals that gossip serves as a primary activity fulfilling the needs for information, validation, and protection against negative gossip. Group members discuss idol-related topics and personal lives, using gossip to manage emotions and strengthen friendships. Social exchange theory explains their pursuit of informational benefits and peace of mind, mitigating overthinking. Group admins play a crucial role in disseminating information and reinforcing social bonds, thereby maintaining the group's reputation through the developed gossip culture. This study uncovers that in the "Broccoli Indonesia" WhatsApp group, gossip serves not only as an information exchange tool but also as a means to foster social closeness and strengthen bonds.
