Abstract
Iron deficiency anemia is a health problem that still requires attention. Based on data from the Ministry of Health, the prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls in DKI Jakarta reaches 23%. This study aims to determine the factors related to the emergence of symptoms of anemia in adolescent girls at SMA X Jakarta. The type of research carried out was quantitative research with a cross-sectional study design. The population in this study was 576 young women in classes X and XI at SMA X Jakarta and 100 respondents were taken. The sampling technique uses stratified random sampling technique. The analysis used is univariate and bivariate. Data collection in this research was carried out by interviews and direct observation with respondents. The results of the study showed that 36 respondents (36%) experienced symptoms of anemia and 64 respondents (64%) did not experience symptoms of anemia. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between age, LILA, and menstrual duration with the appearance of symptoms of anemia with the respective p-values being age p-value = 0.037; LILA p-value = 0.001; and menstrual duration p-value = 0.041. Meanwhile, the variables Body Mass Index according to age, menstrual cycle, menstrual pain, maternal education, family income, and body image do not have a significant relationship with the appearance of symptoms of anemia. Schools are advised to further improve program interventions related to anemia prevention, such as education regarding balanced nutrition and good eating patterns, increasing efforts to improve nutritional status by holding group lunch programs, as well as providing regular Iron Folic Acid Supplement (IFAS).
