Abstract
The high death rate due to stroke in hospitals cannot be separated from the delay in patients receiving therapy at the most recommended time. This underlies the importance of stroke management in the prehospital phase carried out by the family. However, factors related to stroke management in the prehospital phase are not well understood. The aim of this study was to determine the description of stroke management in the prehospital phase and related characteristics. This research used cross-sectional study to 196 families of patients with a high risk of stroke in RW 1 and RW 11, Kelurahan Jombang Wetan, Kota Cilegon, who were selected through Quota Sampling using The Stroke Knowledge and Assessment Tools questionnaire which explored knowledge and responses to stroke. The results showed that 52.0% of families had adequate stroke management in the prehospital phase. Factors found to be related to stroke management in the prehospital phase include last education (p=0.000), relationship with the patient (p=0.000), monthly income (p=0.000), history of stroke treatment in the family (p=0.000) and previous health education experience (p=0.000). Through this study, it is hoped that the government will provide education that increases knowledge and programs to support the achievement of adequate stroke management in the prehospital phase. Keywords : Family, Prehospital Management, Stroke
