Abstract
This research aims to evaluate and explore how Indonesian Public Diplomacy in Thailand was carried out through the Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) educational institution during the 2016-2021 period. This research discusses a language program, namely Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA), which can be a medium for Indonesian public diplomacy towards Thailand. The Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) is an Indonesian language teaching program for foreign communities at home and abroad which is overseen by the Language Development and Development Agency, Ministry of Education and Culture. Teaching Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) is a manifestation of efforts to improve the function of Indonesian to become an international language in accordance with the mandate of the Law. This research will explain how Indonesia's public diplomacy efforts are carried out through the Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program in Thailand. This research uses 1 concept and 1 theory, namely public diplomacy and multitract diplomacy. Descriptive qualitative research methods were used to collect and analyze in-depth data regarding the implementation and impact of the BIPA program in Thailand. The research results show that the BIPA program has succeeded in becoming an effective tool in Indonesian public diplomacy, helping to build a positive image and increasing international understanding of Indonesian culture. The Indonesian government has sent trained teachers and developed various learning resources, including textbooks and the BIPA Online web portal, which not only teach the language but also Indonesian culture. Despite fluctuations in the number of participants, this program continues to grow and is considered important in strengthening cultural and educational ties between Indonesia and Thailand. In conclusion, BIPA in Thailand has been successful in expanding understanding and skills in the Indonesian language and strengthening Indonesia's nation branding at the international level.
