Abstract
Background: Pleural effusion is a disorder that occurs due to the accumulation or buildup of fluid in the cavity between the parietal pleura and visceral pleura. Globally, pleural effusion has a prevalence of 320 cases per 100,000 people with various etiologies each year. The United States reports cases of effusion affecting around 1.5 million patients per year. While in Indonesia, pleural effusion cases reach 2.7%. Problems that can arise are shortness of breath, pleuritic pain, decreased thoracic expansion and impaired functional activity. Physiotherapy plays a role in overcoming the problems that occur in pleural effusion so that patients can move again. Objective: This study aims to determine the process of physiotherapy management by giving Deep Breathing Exercise and Chest Mobility in cases of pleural effusion. Research Methods: This study uses a case report method which involves a female patient initials Mrs. U, 62 years old, complaining of shortness of breath and chest pain and pain in the pig tail installation area. Results: After being given therapy for 3 meetings, it was found that the results decreased shortness of breath, pain and increased thoracic expansion. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study shows that after giving Deep Breathing Exercise and Chest Mobility in cases of pleural effusion there is a decrease in shortness of breath, pain and increased thoracic expansion.
