Abstract

This research aims to discuss the efforts made by the Thai government in using marine tourism as Thailand's nation branding in 2020-2023. using Anholt's nation branding theory, and marine tourism. The research method used is descriptive qualitative using secondary data sources through news and data from the Thai government. The author uses four stages of data analysis according to Miles & Huberman, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data withdrawal/verification. This research was motivated by Thailand sex tourism which then gave a negative image to Thailand's branding, thus the government attempted to utilize marine tourism to improve Thailand's image to something more positive globally. The results of this research show that the government fulfills the aspects of establishing nation branding through five of the six aspects of establishing Anholt's nation branding using marine tourism. In the governance aspect, it was found that in marine tourism promotion programs there was active participation and commitment given by the government in implementing marine tourism programs, in tourism it was found that there was a significant increase in the number of foreign tourists to Thailand and to marine tourism areas, in investment & immigration, it was found that there was Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regarding tourism and an increase in the number of foreign tourist arrivals, in the culture & heritage aspect it was found how Thailand has many interesting cultures and historical heritages for foreign tourists to visit, in the people aspect, namely how Thai people provide a sense of security and comfort for visiting foreign tourists, but in exports the author did not find any correlation between export activities carried out by Thailand and the marine tourism program.
