Abstract

Stroke patients have a 12.9% risk of experiencing a repeat stroke after 10 years of experiencing their first stroke. Good self-efficacy in understanding and using medication is needed to increase medication compliance, thereby increasing the importance of self-management in preventing recurrent stroke. The aim of this study was to determine the close relationship between self-efficacy in understanding and using medication and the clinical status of stroke patients. This research is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach on 85 stroke patients. The questionnaire used was MUSE (Medication Understanding and Use Self Efficacy) to measure self-efficacy in stroke patients and used medical records to measure the patient's clinical status. The results show that the majority of respondents have a history of recurrent stroke and have good efficacy. The Spearman correlation test shows that self-efficacy in understanding and using drugs is related to the level of awareness (r=0.314, p= <0.001), the level of severity (r= -0.725, p= <0.001), blood pressure (r= -0.485, p= <0.001), blood sugar levels (r= -0.683, p= 0.037), and cholesterol levels (r= -0.375, p=0.012), with a low-strong correlation. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between self-efficacy in understanding and using drugs and the clinical status of stroke patients. The majority of respondents already had experience related to stroke so they had higher efficacy. It is necessary to identify comparisons of self-efficacy in first-time stroke patients and recurrent strokes.
