Abstract

Along with the increase in consumption of crude oil and products can affect the increase in oil transportation accommodation using tankers. In the operation of this ship can experience a decrease due to the influence of obstacles that occur. This research will analyze the hull of the Kriso Very Large Crude Carrier (KVLCC2) which is a VLCC type ship with a rounded bow and U-shaped stern line. The hull resistance along with decreasing water depth. The statement has explained that drag can be influenced by water depth or shallow water. This study aims to explain the obstacles that occur in the total resistance of the hull in shallow water. The analysis is carried out on the total resistance of the tanker by simulating the testing of the physical model of the hull with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In this Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using Ansys CFX device. In the process, this simulation is carried out in both conditions, namely in deep and shallow water. This simulation was carried out on six speed variations, with Froude numbers 0.101; 0.1194; 0.1377; 0.1423; 0.1469; and 0.1515. The results of the simulations that have been carried out, get the value of total resistance in shallow water is greater than the value of total resistance in deep water. Thus, with this research development of KVLCC2 ship as a contribution in the maritime field.
