Abstract
The Single-loop Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is a type of power generation system that utilizes a thermodynamic cycle with a single loop or closed circuit. Currently, this technology is widely used to enhance the efficiency of ship engines while they are in motion. One such technology is the ORC, which is well-suited for recovering low-grade waste heat from ships. However, research on ORC technology is still limited. Therefore, this study focuses on the Research Vessel Yukun to understand the operation of the Single-loop Organic Rankine Cycle system on this vessel. The analysis process was carried out through the ORC thermodynamic system using working fluids R1233zd(E), R1234yf, and R-22 with varying temperatures and pressures in the Engineering Equation Solver software. The analysis also included components such as the pump, evaporator, turbine, and condenser, providing data on enthalpy, energy, and efficiency values. The analysis results indicated that R-32 achieved the lowest value at the Condenser Outlet Enthalpy (h1) with an average of 245.65 [kJ/kg], making it the best performer in the system. R-32 also obtained the best results in terms of the highest values at the Evaporator Outlet Enthalpy (h3) and Condenser Inlet Enthalpy (h4), with averages of 758.7 [kJ/kg] and 672.5 [kJ/kg], respectively. However, for the Evaporator Inlet Enthalpy (h2), R1233zd(E) had the highest value among R1234yf and R32, with an average of 365.175 [kJ/kg], making it the best in the Single-loop ORC system. Additionally, the best energy results were obtained with R32 for Work Pump Energy, averaging 1.3145 [kJ/kg]. For Work Turbine Energy and Evaporator Heat, R-32 achieved the highest values, averaging 86.205 [kJ/kg] and 511.3 [kJ/kg], respectively. Meanwhile, the best Condenser Heat value was achieved with R1233zd(E), averaging 211.975 [kJ/kg]. The analysis also showed that the best ORC system efficiency was achieved with R1234yf, with an average of 16.5%. This is due to R1234yf having a higher vaporization enthalpy, thereby increasing cycle efficiency. Therefore, R1234yf is the best fluid that can be used in the Single-loop Organic Rankine Cycle system on the Research Vessel Yukun.
