Abstract

Toxicity test is one of the approaches taken to determine harmful properties inherent within a botanical specimen. Andaliman fruit is renowned for its multifaceted benefits encompassing antibacterial, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory, thus necessitating further examination regarding its toxicity profile for potential standardized herbal medicine development and phytomedicine. The primary objective of this study was to ascertain the toxicity profile of the ethanol extract derived from Andaliman fruit (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium) using the ultrasonic extraction method. The Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method was carried out to determine the Lethal Concentration (LC50) values and subsequently classify the toxicity category. based on the mortality of Artemia salina Leach larvae. The research outcomes, utilizing four concentration variations, 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm, and 400 ppm utilized two solvent types, namely 50% and 96% ethanol yielding LC50 values of 292,415 ppm and 249,459 ppm, both of which are indicative of toxic properties within the specified categories according to Meyer’s classification.
