Abstract
In the context of political competition, candidates and political parties use a variety of strategies to achieve victory in general elections. Achieving this requires the application of political strategies that are in accordance with the cultural system of the people in the area. Success in this competition is highly dependent on the selection of the right strategy, which is a key aspect to win the competition efficiently and effectively. Not only applicable at the national level, but political parties also need to create strategies at the regional level to win power. One of them is the Gerindra Party in the 2019 DKI Jakarta DPRD Legislative Election. This research uses the theory of political strategy, and several concepts such as political campaigns, political parties, and elections. The research method used in this research is qualitative and analyzes it in a descriptive form which aims to describe existing symptoms or reality. Data was collected through interviews and literature review. The results obtained show that Gerindra Party implemented offensive and defensive strategies in the 2019 DKI Jakarta Legislative Election. The offensive strategy involves expanding outreach through personal approaches to candidates, the use of social media and conventional campaign media. In addition, the coattail effect of the national campaign also had a positive impact on vote acquisition at the local level. The defensive strategy aims to maintain voter trust and loyalty, this is carried out with a sustainable approach to the community and election education to reduce abstention. Consistency in socialization and direct involvement in community activities succeeded in strengthening community support for the Gerindra Party.
