Abstract
The use of beauty filters to enhance photos has become a common virtual phenomenon among various groups, particularly women. The application of beauty filters on the social media platform TikTok has become a form of self-expression, where users are free to choose beauty filters that suit their preferences based on the ideal appearance according to certain beauty standards they believe in. This leads users to feel more comfortable with their appearance that has been enhanced with beauty filters in the virtual world. This study uses Jean Baudrillard's theory of hyperreality, which assumes that manipulated simulation and representation become more important than the underlying reality. The method used in this research is a qualitative virtual ethnography approach. The research subjects are TikTok beauty filter users, where data is collected from observations and in-depth interviews with five informants who meet the predetermined criteria. The results of this study reveal that there are hyperreality practices found among TikTok beauty filter users, showing a post-human condition where users feel more comfortable interacting in the virtual world. This leads to the collapse of real reality which is replaced by virtual reality, so that users become accustomed to seeing themselves in a version that has been perfected using beauty filters.
