Abstract

The background of this research is fanaticism behaviour that often occurs among KPOP music fans due to the widespread Korean Wave phenomenon, especially in Indonesia. Fanaticism is an attitude or behaviour of excessive love for an object that is marked by imitation behaviour or following the style of the idol, consumptive behaviour to buy all items related to the idol, and obsessive behaviour towards the idol. Fanaticism also leads to a culture of participation where fanatical fans tend to have a desire to join the same fan community. This research aims to see how activities that reflect fanaticism in the Carat Indonesia fandom on social media X and the impact of fanaticism on their daily lives. This research uses a constructivist paradigm with a virtual ethnographic qualitative method. The data sources of this research coming from observations and interviews with 5 (five) informants who are members of the Carat fandom and actively use X social media. The results show that fanaticism can be seen from fan posts on social media X both through personal accounts and community accounts that show the traditions and culture carried out by Carat on social media X and reflect imitation, consumptive, and obsessive behaviour towards idols. Fanaticism also has a considerable impact on Seventeen boyband fans in their daily lives.
