Abstract
Varicocele is an enlarged vein in the scrotum due to obstruction of blood flow. One of the treatments for varicocele is varicocelectomy surgery. Varicocelectomy surgery generally uses spinal anesthesia. Spinal anesthesia is an anesthetic that is injected directly into the cerebrospinal fluid in the spinal cord which can relieve pain in the hips and lower body. Spinal anesthesia has the effect of disrupting thermoregulatory function so that it can cause hypothermia. Hypothermia is a condition where the body temperature is <36°C which occurs because the body is no longer able to produce heat to compensate and replace lost body heat. One therapy that can be applied by nurses is combined warming therapy. Combined warming therapy is a warming method by passively and actively providing heat to the body. The aim of this study is to analyze the application of combined warming therapy interventions to treat hypothermia in post-operative patients. This study used combined warming therapy given for 30 minutes. The results of the study showed that there was an improvement in body temperature, shivering symptom scores, vital signs, and hypothermia symptoms. The first patient's temperature increased from 34.2°C to 36.7°C and the shivering symptom score decreased from 4 to 0. The second patient's temperature increased from 34.5°C to 36.5°C and the shivering symptom score decreased from 3 to 0. Based on the analysis that has been carried out, it can be concluded that combined warming therapy can overcome post-operative hypothermia.
