Abstract

This research aims to examine the role of the non-state actor performed by Jun Chef in promoting South Korean gastrodiplomacy in Indonesia. The research raises the research question, "What is the role of Jun Chef as a Non-State Actor in promoting South Korean Gastrodiplomacy in Indonesia?" The dissemination of gastrodiplomacy can be done through collaboration with non-state actors. Involving non-state actors is used in the practice of gastrodiplomacy, which is derived from public diplomacy. Involving non-state actors can help the government achieve diplomatic goals in a more effective way. One of the non-state actors who promote South Korean culinary culture in Indonesia through social media is Jun Chef. Jun Chef is a South Korean chef who migrated to Indonesia and brings an authentic experience of South Korean cuisine to the Indonesian society. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, utilizing primary and secondary data sources. The data collection technique in this research is conducted through interviews by asking several questions to the research subjects. The researcher utilizes diplomacy theory and the concept of gastrodiplomacy to analyze this topic. The results of this research state that Jun Chef, as a non-state actor, has a significant presence in the dissemination of South Korean gastrodiplomacy in Indonesia. This is evidenced by the enthusiastic response from the Indonesian society in following social media and participating in events attended by Jun Chef. With Jun Chef's role as a non-state actor in gastrodiplomacy, South Korea can utilize culinary power to promote a positive image, enhance culinary tourism, and strengthen the relationship between South Korean and Indonesian communities.
