Abstract
Obesity is a complex and multifactorial disease characterized by being overweight due to excessive fat accumulation in the body. Obesity is caused by an imbalance in the amount of energy that enters and the amount of energy expended so that the body weight becomes heavier than the ideal body weight due to the accumulation of fat in the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between vitamin B12 intake, physical activity, and nutritional knowledge with the incidence of obesity in students of the Undergraduate Nutrition Study Program of UPN Veteran Jakarta. The design of this study was a cross-sectional study conducted on 58 students aged 18-22 years at the Nutrition Study Program of the UPN Veterans Jakarta Undergraduate Program. Subjects were selected based on inclusion criteria. Sampling in this study used a stratified random sampling technique. Statistical tests to see the relationship between vitamin B12 intake, physical activity, and knowledge of nutrition with the incidence of obesity using the chi-square test. Most of the students had normal nutritional status (86.2%), a lack of vitamin B12 intake (58.6%), a lack of physical activity (55.2%), and adequate nutritional knowledge (96.6%). There was an insignificant relationship between vitamin B12 intake and obesity (p-value = 0.050). There is a significant relationship between physical activity and obesity (p-value = 0.020) and there is an insignificant relationship between nutritional knowledge and obesity (p-value = 0.070). There is no relationship between vitamin B12 intake and nutritional knowledge with the incidence of obesity and there is a relationship between physical activity and the incidence of obesity.
